About Harry

Harry Lowther is an accomplished and experierenced guitarist who sings, plays bass guitar and the drums. Currently, Harry is the lead guitarist of the alternative band Forest Fires and up until May 2016, was a member of the A-Level performance music band 'Foreign Ground' covering all of his chosen instruments including vocals. Harry's versitile ability and coverage of a wide range of contempory instruments had lead him to venture out to other projects such as playing Bass in an well established proffessional function band and playing drums in a pit band for local musical theatre groups.  Harry is going to further his career in contempory music practice in the September of 2016, by undertaking a three year Creative Musicianship degree at BIMM London (The British Institute For Modern Music).

Harry started playing guitar when he was just six years old. Influenced by guitarists such as 'Slash' from Guns and Roses and 'Angus Young' from ACDC, Harry started by playing electric guitar to play along to songs such as 'Sweet child of mine' and 'Back in black'. When Harry discovered artists such as John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Harry started to play more blues oriented guitar, focusing on the clean sounds and warm tones of the electric guitar heavily using the neck and middle pickup position on the guitar. Not only does Harry play the guitar, he switches between bass guitar, drums and vocals when they are needed. He picked up the bass guitar when he was approached by a function band who needed a bass player and through endless function gigs playing weddings and private birthday parties, he bulstered his bass and rythm playing skills.

Harry focuses on creating a melody on the electric guitar when he plays and makes sure that the listner hears every part of the guitar. This why he prefers to play more clean sounds with a clean overdrive boost when it comes to soloing. Although usually opting to play lead guitar, Harry can and has played rythm guitar in bands of multiple genres. This is mainly due to the fact that he also plays drums so he has a better understanding of how the rythm of a song should be structured and how to apply a rythm guitar section on top of a bass line and lead guitar line. Another skill that Harry has is the ability to be an effective session guitar player. Harry understands that with session playing for other bands, he is there merely to enhance the ideas of that particular band. He is not there to add his own ideas (unless required), he is there to play what exactly the band had on their recordings.
